Supercape Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Player Name: Supercape Character Name: Superego Power Level: 10 (180/180PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 0 Progress To Bronze Status: 0/30 In Brief: Psychic dreamer who can project a paragon superhero when he is asleep. Alternate Identity: Dr Leon Luzhkov Identity: Secret Birthplace: Moscow Occupation: Psychiatrist Affiliations: None Family: Mikhael Luzhkov, brother (Captain Russian Spetznaz) Description: Age: 48 (DoB: 20th October, 1964 Apparent Age: (if applicable)48 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5’10†Weight: 80Kgs Eyes:Blue Hair:Grey Dr Luzhkov appears as a fairly healthy man with white grey hair, clean shaven, with handsome features atop a wide brow. Due to neurological damage, he finds walking quite difficult. The degree to which his problems affect him vary from day to day. On a bad day he requires a wheelchair, on a good day he just walks with a limp. Normally he at least requires a stick or two, and a wheelchair for any protracted walking. When he falls asleep, he can ‘dream’ into being a psychic manifestation of his will, called Superego. Superego looks a lot like Dr Luzkhov, but a little younger and fitter. He wears a silver costume with gold trimming, complete with blue cape and boots. Power Descriptions: Dr Luzkhov has some limited psychic ability, revolving around his mastery of the dreaming process. These powers are all essentially invisible and subtle. As Superego, he gains incredible strength, speed, and resilience. His powers are not obvious, other than the speed of his movement, and his ability to walk on air. History: Dr Luzhkov was a skilled psychiatrist in the Soviet Union, and later Russia. His talents did not go unnoticed by the KGB, and subsequently other government agencies, and in his youth he did some things for Communist Russia he would rather forget, as was the tendency of psychiatry under that regime. His life changed when he became involved in research into Substance N, a drug that was to be used to regenerate and augment the nervous system, and was believed to have potential to be used in Spy programmes, or for rehabilitation of injured veterans. However, Substance N was particularly unpredictable and dangerous, riddled with side effects, and potentially lethal. Even using minute doses of the drug on soldiers with head and spinal injuries caused such disasters that the project was about to be scrapped. In a fit of recklessness, and belief in his own theories, Dr. Luzhkov took a much larger dose of Substance N, believing a higher dose would solve all the problems of the testing. The drug wrecked his body, leaving him with permanent neurological damage. He was virtually wheelchair bound, suffered bouts of great pain, and had seizures and headaches. And, for his recklessness and foolishness, he was stripped of his medical status and job. This was a period of utmost despair for Leon, who was now severely disabled, in pain, and without career. With his money running out, one night he drank all his vodka, took all his painkillers, and waited for death to come as he passed out. And that was when Substance N really kicked in. He dreamt he was a might Superhero, bristling with power, whizzing through the streets of Moscow, administering justice to all the low life Mafia that, as Dr Luzhkov he had been forced to deal with to get illegal pain killers. And when he woke up, he knew it had been real, somehow. Without much of a home in Moscow, bar his brother, Mikhael, who was still angry at him for his mistakes (and may be his experiments on veterans), Leon Luzhkov decided to head for America. Using up his savings on a ticket to America, he made his way to Freedom City. A much humbled Dr Luzhkov arrived on the shores of America, determined now to use his particular gifts for justice and good. Personality & Motivation: Superego is has a slightly black ‘medical’ sense of humour. He is genuinely caring and tries to see the good in all people – as a psychiatrist he was no real belief in free will, and inherent good or evil in people (although he believes in ‘good’ behaviour). Rather, villainy is just a cause from damaged pasts and psyches. Due to the pain he suffers, he can at times be irritable, tired, and snappy – traits he will apologise for. He is an introspective, thoughtful, and philosophical man, but he is not Shy. Indeed, he is quite humorous, witty, and charming. Although he is modest in action and word, he had a deeper level of hubris about his own intellectual ability – a trait he acknowledges and does his best to mitigate. He had done things in the past that he is not proud of. They are not necessarily evil acts, more weak willed ones, ones to do with the system he was working in. Nevertheless, this does prey on his mind, and provides additional motivation to be a hero (he would feel quite proud to do this anyway). Powers & Tactics: As Superego, he will try to use charisma, persuasion, and awe when he can. He will then fight as a fairly standard ‘Paragon’ bruiser, using speed and strength to overpower his enemies. He is not particularly skilled in martial arts, but as Superego his natural speed and strength make him a powerful fighter. If not sleeping as Superego, he might use his powerful psychic ability over dreams to manipulate or examine people, or even induce sleep. Either awake or asleep, Superego has a particular sensitivity to dreams. He can sense them at some distance. In addition, if a particularly large number of people are dreaming at the same time (for instance, Freedom City in the middle of the night) he can sense this as a ‘dream nexus’, and gather all the psychic energies – the hopes, fears, imaginations and ideas, together, which will vastly improve his mental faculties. This gathering of the dream nexus is not something he is keen to do – it causes him to become very sleepy, which does not improve until several hours later. During this time the dreams he gathers slowly fade, until his mental faculties fade to his normal (still superior) levels. As befitting his personality and skills he is not a violent man, and will prefer rehabilitation over punishment. Superego is essentially a dream, a powerful psychic force appearing as a superhero. If Leon cannot visualise where Superego is going, then Superego cannot go there. This means that Leon will often have to ‘wake up’ and go to a new area, or at least see it by some means, before he can again go to sleep and project himself as Superego. Thus, whilst Superego is very powerful, usually Dr Leon must get around and about (usually incognito) in order for Superego to get around. This can cause some difficulties especially given Leon’s disabilities. Complications: Name: [Description] Secret Identity: Nobody knows who Superego is. Chemically powered: Leon must take, on a daily basis, small quantities of Substance N to keep all his powers(including his ability to become Superego and enhanced intelligence/wisdom/charisma). Otherwise they tend to slowly fade. Massive emotions such as distress or love, will trigger his powers and can serve as a replacement for Substance N. Disabled: Leon is very disabled. As with many neurological conditions, the severity of this varies from day to day (as above) but for practical purposes he normally walks very slowly with a stick or two for short distances, and uses a wheelchair for longer journeys. Pain: Leon suffers from bouts of neurological pain that he holds at bay (to some extent) with painkillers that he has become addicted to. To go boldly: Superego cannot go (at least voluntarily) where Leon cannot imagine or visualise. Normally this means Leon must at least vaguely be familiar with the location, such as having seen it, or a picture / TV show of it. Hippocratic Oath: Dr Luzhkov is a doctor and psychiatrist, and abides by the ethics of that profession. The power of the unconscious: Superego is only as strong as his self-belief. If intimidated or scared, or he believes he will fail, then his strength will evaporate (at least in regard to the problem causing those emotions). In addition, his dreams are not a precise science. Unconscious conflicts can come out in dreams, and could change his appearance or limit his powers (e.g. fear of being naked, of going bald, of falling, etc…) I must sleep: If Leon cannot sleep, such as being distracted or chemically induced wakefulness, he cannot become Superego – and if woken (such as from his body being attacked or hurt), Superego will vanish. He is quite adapt at sleeping normally, being able to enter REM sleep within a full round even with minor distractions such as background noise. This might give a situational bonus on certain charisma based rolls. Unrecognisable: Like Clark Kent and Superman, Superego may look a lot like Dr Leon Luzhkov, but somehow nobody ever puts two and two together...
Supercape Posted October 25, 2012 Author Posted October 25, 2012 This is a proposed character for my next upcoming reward (yeah, and I think it will be my last). I kind of always wanted to do a psychic character with a twist, as well as pay homage to my profession! So basically we have a Paragon type psychic force emitted from a vulnerable sleeper. To make this interesting and to avoid any charges of bathroom mentalist (actual PC stays in fortress, superhero goes out to party), Superego is limited in that he the "normal" has to go out to see where his Superhero goes. Which could be kind of interesting. Hypothetically, Superego could actually scoop up his dreaming normal body, dump it somewhere, wake up, and look at a new area, then fall asleep again. But it would get kinda funny!
