"Good plan," Kat said, pushing herself back up to a stand and stretching her arms behind her back. "We're gonna need to get out of the way of something big and nasty the old fashioned way one day, and I wanna be ready." She followed right behind Kris until she stopped and tilted her head to the side in question.

Once Kris had let her question fly, the younger girl bit down her lip for a long moment. A petty part of her wanted to lay something to make Kris' guilt dig a little deeper. But that wasn't what friends did. Kat sighed. "Nah, you were right, and I was practically asking for it. I wasn't being fair to him." Kat gave her friend a warm smile. "We're cool."
