Electra Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) trollthumper Hey, Cavalier doesn't yet know how Lost has ended. Imagine trying to navigate the maze of superhero relationships. Electra Cavalier should definitely not start his study of superhero relationships with this one. AvengerAssembled There's a large angry minotaur in the middle of this particular maze. The bottom half is Gina's issues. The top half is Steve's issues. It is a issuetaur. Electra The relationship between Caradoc/Harrier/Steve and Miss Americana/Cyberknife/Gina is a master class in convoluted superhero relationships. trollthumper Born when Pasiphae had hot dirty sex with the "It's Complicated" descriptor on Facebook. Electra AvengerAssembled Yes! I think. Edited July 18, 2013 by Electra

Ari Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Ecalsneer Uncanny Avengers: where the real enemy is everyone having long snide arguments Arichamus I can't even think of anything to say about that, because yes that's all that is. KnightDisciple has entered the room 10:45 AM KnightDisciple Yes, good. Ecalsneerg Except for Thor Who's all "GUYS, STOP ARGUING" Thevshi Hey KD Arichamus Hi KnightDisciple! Ecal> Good old Thor. Not even a bad story can keep him down. Ecalsneerg A less charitable title for it would be Straight Middle-Class White Anglo-Saxon Screws Up Minority Politics Ari> He's like the Christopher Walken of Marvel Arichamus He really is. Just wanders in and does great things. 10:50 AM Ecalsneerg "By jove! This storyline... 'tis HACKNEYED! Friends, have we no dignity? No grace? Let us speak over our issues, over a feast!" "Go away, Thor" "HAH! I shall start my own Avengers!" "With dice games, and concubines!"

Ari Posted October 4, 2013 Author Posted October 4, 2013 Gizmo 'New genre show smell' is when you're still fresh enough that you can still do freak of the week episodes tying into the core concept while dropping little bits of a larger storyline and aspects of the main characters. Later on you inevitably get stuck in your own bigger picture and episodes either have to be all about that season's big bad or some overwrought personal drama that becomes more and more frequent. Gizmo Shows that start off as heavily serialized generally have a complete story plotted out and only run into trouble when they get renewed for the season after that story finishes. More episodic shows tend to inevitably become more and more serialized as they succumb to the weight of their expanding continuity. AvengerAssembled Hah-hah, okay. Ecalsneerg The Chris Carter effect? AvengerAssembled I would probably have said "new genre show smell" was just not smelling very good, but your way sounds better, Giz. Thunder King Whether or not a show being less episodic depends entirely on how good the show is, lol. Gizmo Admittedly I don't actually like 'new car smell' but I do really like sounding glib, so. KnightDisciple **is honestly getting a bit wary of shows that decide to just throw in the "Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" at this point. ** Gizmo Obvious exceptions include the LOST model, where the show is heavily serialized but clearly never had any idea where it was going the Scooby Doo model where there's no continuity to speak of at all. Well, it's not 'just throwing it in', KD. That's the entire premise of the show. That's like being wary of Battlestar Galactica for just throwing in robots. AvengerAssembled Aw yeah, new desk fan works. 7:15 PM AvengerAssembled Our offices are air-conditioned, sure, but insufficiently! GizmoSpeaking of Battlestar, science fiction show losing their new genre show smell have a habit of replacing it with space Jesus, whereas fantasy shows go the other route and inevitably introduce their version of the devil. Although, to be fair, in the latter case they've usually already introduced their equivalents of demons and hell, so it's not quite as out of left field. It's more noticeable on high fantasy shows like... I'm going to say Beastmaster.
Ari Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Note: the system Gizmo is referring to is 13th Age. Gizmo Alright, so the system lets you go as outside of the box and your usual comfort zone as you can! I'm thinking... a charming but irreverent swordsman who-- wait, no, dammit! Ecalsneerg has left the room Fox has left the room Fox has entered the room trollthumper Hey Fox. AvengerAssembled You should play a gorilla. Gorilla Batman! KnightDisciple A charming but irreverant Gorilla Swordsman? Sorus Gizmo, a swordsman who has a strong positive relationship with the elf queen, yesss? AvengerAssembled Is a Gorilla - +5 There you go, what other background do you need? Sorus Is BatCow +5 AvengerAssembled Heretic! Is a Heretic! +5 Well, that one depends on the setting. Thunder King I had an idea for a rogue who isn't one. He's a street performer. Escapes, sleight of hand tricks. Juggling and tumbling... Applying the exact same skill set on what's outwardly a more honest, trustworthy fellow than thieves... Sorus Spanish Inquisition +2 AvengerAssembled Unexpected, Sorus! ...Unexpected +5! 7:40 PM Gizmo Fear +1, Surprise +1, Ruthless Efficiency +1, An Almost Fanatical Devotion to the Pope +1 and Nice Red Uniform +1. horngeek Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Ecalsneerg HG> Yes, but that's due to not carrying a toilet, not due to claiming magic makes toilets a lie upheld by the MAN Raveled Hey! You uphold those damn lies. AvengerAssembled Japan has surely taught us that toilets can be magic!
KnightDisciple Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Ecalsneerg ... ugh, variant level See, ToME to spice up the fact it has set levels (random lay-outs, but each dungeon has a fixed list of features and enemies, and a set boss) has like a 10% chance of the 'variant' dungeon The elf starter dungeon is a standard fantasy frolics. A forest, of snakes and bees and wolves and rats, to fight a big mean bear I've fought through frost elementals to find the big mean bear! Possessed by frost elementals Raveled So it's a polar bear. What's your problem? 7:35 PM Vahnyu well, it's bearly appropriate, now, isn't it? Ecalsneerg It's created a swirling ice vortex, sucked me into it and frozen me into an ice block On the plus side, it has to break through the ice block to injure me Raveled That's a grizzly fate. Ecalsneerg On the downside, I'm frozen in an ice block Raveled This is a black day for adventurers everywhere. Ecalsneerg Dammit people, can we put the puns on ice! Raveled Even hearing this story is making me want to wear my brown pants. Ecalsneerg Every second topic, you guys go foraging through it to find puns Focus on what I'm saying, not the individual words! You guys can't see the wood for the trees. Raveled It's a knotty problem, that's fir sure. Of course, this is just giving us the chance to branch out into whole new territory. Thunder King Wood you guys quit with the puns, they're hoaky 7:40 PM Vahnyu everyone, just chill HG Morrison KnightDisciple Ecalsneerg I will punt you all out of Chat
Ari Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 While discussing How I Met Your Mother, and it's impending ending. Ecalsneerg "I birthed you from my hallucinations!" "I wifed myself." Actually, no, that would be too depressingly sad trollthumper "You sprung from my thigh!" AvengerAssembled Or the kids are real, sure Ecalsneerg They're just not his? trollthumper Yeah, and they did it once before. AvengerAssembled But he wound up getting divorced because his wife got sick of him mooning over Robin Ecalsneerg Meta! AvengerAssembled So this is his one weekend a month! Ecalsneerg Man, Ted makes decent money. He could afford a better lawyer than "one weekend a month" AvengerAssembled Well, this is a guy who sits down with his kids to tell them about all the women he's slept with There may have been recordings used in the custody case. 10:35 AM Ecalsneerg Think how little careless casual sex his kids will have He has contracepted their brains, dude
Ari Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 Thunder King New Mutants, New X-Men, Generation X. Kitty Pryde, Cannonball, Sunspot, Magma, Rictor, Skids, Rusty, Artie, Leech, Hellion, Mercury, Surge, Elixir, Husk, Skin, Mondo, Monet, Pixie, Sprite, Eye Boy, Wolfsbane, Cypher, Armor, Jubilee, Prodigy, Anole, Rockslide, Magik... The X-Men have a mutant kid problem Because I'm pretty sure I'm missing at -least- half. 10:40 AM Thunder King Every new X writer creates half a dozen new young mutants, and most of the above should be full time X-Men or other heroes But the cast keeps getting more and more bloated, and none of the newer writers do anything with the older group Remember when Surge was the leader of the new, up and coming mutant kid group? I haven't seen her on screen in years. I mean, okay, Sunspot and Cannonball are now Avengers. cool, great. But there are -so- many of those kids, there aren't homes for any of them. Cool characters with interesting powers. The lesson is, Spay and Neuter your X-Writers.

Vahnyu Posted July 9, 2014 Posted July 9, 2014 HG Morrison Man in the Iron Mask might be my favorite Musketeers adaptation. But it's equally a middle of the road movie. 1:00 AM Heritage has left the room Vahnyu Mine would be Anime San Jushi not the least because Aramis was revealed to be, in fact, a woman in disguise (also, it had a rapier chain whip) 1:05 AM Ecalsneerg has entered the room Ecalsneerg It is so warm HG Morrison I'm assuming it hardens or else it wouldn't be good for thrusting. Thunder King hi Ecal HG Morrison Without context that is an odd sentence. Hi Ecal Vahnyu it makes just as much sense in context but yeah

Ari Posted October 3, 2014 Author Posted October 3, 2014 While discussing bars, and Ecalsneerg was holding forth on how KnightDisciple appearing in a Scottish bar in full Midwestern garb would generate only laughter while he, a Scotsman, could go to any bar and be anointed King KnightDisciple **is ruggedly handsome and has a fantastic bear!** Raveled You can't bring a bear into a bar!
