Uninverted Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 This was starting to irritate Maelstrom. He wasn't really losing, but missing with every attack and landing on the ground meant he certainly wasn't winning. This was a bad thing. His opponent was just too fast. Maybe he shouldn't try to hit him with something, but try to hit something with him. So without even getting up, he started funneling air to the spot right below the hero's feet. Once the air under him was dense enough, he sent all of it upwards, hoping his opponent would travel with it, and slam into the ceiling.

Uninverted Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 As Nightrival fell to the ground, Maelstrom saw another opening. Let's end this with a bang he thought. He saw an empty bar nearby, and got an idea. He created a short lasted hurricane force wind, picking up everything on the shelves behind the bar. Dozens of bottles of every type of alcohol flew towards Nightrival. Breathing heavily, he still managed to shout "Thirsty?!"

Shadowboxer Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Nightrival Nightrival plummets back to the floor, landing hard on his shoulder. He lets a quiet groan escape him as he struggles to stand, but he can only kneel. Stray playing cards and poker chips flutter about in the casino, carried by Maelstrom's powerful winds. He hears tinkling glass somewhere. That's when he sees the bottles. Oh, man. He quickly lifts his arms to cover his face and chest. The bottles smash into him and against the wall, spraying him with their sharp smelling contents. Although some glass is imbedded into his gloves, forearms and shoulders, the wounds are only superficial. Nightrival bounds back onto his feet. Glass falls to the floor. He resumes his stance, crouching low with ready fists. Then, he waits. He waits for a brief moment when Maelstrom's eyes are momentarily diverted. And when they do, Nightrival takes the opportunity and dashes away in a blur, vanishing before the villian's eyes.

Uninverted Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Thoroughly confused, Maelstrom looked around blankly. "I thought capes were supposed to be brave." he said, doing his best to buy time. He was trying his hardest to see the glint of a shard of glass, of the smell of alcohol, but found nothing. He blew himself twenty feat into the air, and held his position by creating a precise updraft, exactly enough to hold his weight. But he still couldn't see a thing.

Shadowboxer Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Nightrival Concealed within the shadows, Nightrival lifts an single eyebrow as Maelstrom soars twenty feet in the air. Huh. That's new. His eyes hunt for an object and immediately he finds an overturned wooden chair nearby. Over the years he's learned two valuable lessons: use the environment to your advantage and never hesitate to fight dirty. Honour is a myth; survival is all that matters. And right now, Nightrival is fighting to stay alive against a formidable foe. He could almost hear his Krav Maga and RAF instructors barking in his ears. Nightrival grabs the chair's legs and emerges from behind the flickering shadows and damaged card tables. He then tosses the chair at his airborne opponent with every ounce of muscle in his tired, bleeding arms! The chair flies towards Maelstrom and strikes the villian, smashing into splinters. "Here," he says, "have a seat."

Uninverted Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 Seeing the chair fly at him, Maelstrom almost reflexively blew it off course. But then he decided to kill two birds with one stone. He stopped the chair in midair with a precise zephyr, and sent it back towards Nightrival, with with a stream of air. "I'd rather stand."

Shadowboxer Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Nightrival Nightrival quickly ducks, allowing the chair to pass over him. It lands on a table on the other side of the casino, crashing into a roulette wheel and breaking in half. "You should reconsider," he snaps back, "you're looking a little winded." He somersaults ten feet across the casino, landing on his hands near the two security guards, then launches himself another nine feet to the other side of the foyer. He expertly settles back onto his feet and faces Maelstrom in a drop stance. "You're not getting past me. I can so this all night, and I'm sure the cops on are their way."

Uninverted Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 The cops. Of course. "You're going to have some explaining to do." Maelstrom said, and manipulating the air around him, sailed out of the door at full speed. As soon as he was out, he flew straight up. Any one nearby would have felt short of breath, from the vacuum created by sending so much air into the sky. It was the perfect plan. No one dressed in black was ever a good guy, and the smell of everything in the bar probably wouldn't help his case. Eventually he would probably be fine, but having the nearest hero spending his evening in questioning sure would help Maelstrom make a clean get away.

Shadowboxer Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Nightrival watches Maelstrom sail up and away, coughing as the villian fills the room with a powerful gust of wind. The nagging tension that had knotted his stomach earlier begins to unravel itself. Man, what a relief. I don't know how much longer I could've lasted. He relaxes his stance and causally walks over to the two security guards. "Hey. You guys alright?" he asks them while he plucks shards of glass from out of his arms. He glances across the casino to survey the damage. Two smashed chairs, countless broken tables, shattered bottles, a ruined slot machine and a man-sized hole in the ceiling. Not a bad night, he thinks.
