Solar Sentinel nodded. "Do you think they'd appreciate some backup? I can follow with the cops, well above them and be there when they corner the robbers. That way the police have some help, if you think that's a good idea."

It was somewhat strange. Solar Sentinel, as a super hero, found it important to cooperate with the police. Henry, as a fire fighter, also found it important to cooperate with the police. He had a bit of insight into how the emergency services worked. That was occasionally useful, like knowing how radio communication between police, paramedics and fire fighters worked.

The officer gave Solar Sentinel a small smile.  "We certainly won't turn down an offer to help.  It could certainly help to have you nearby should the situation change before they get to wherever they are headed and they start endangering civilians.  Not to mention there could be more of them waiting wherever they are going as well."

"Here, take this."  The officer added, handing Sentinel a radio.  "It is from one of the injured officers, will allow you to stay in touch with the squad cars in pursuit.  Right now the van is headed south on Indiana into Southside."

Solar Sentinel nodded, took the radio, and vanished in a streak of blue light. As soon as he hit a high enough altitude to stay well above their visibility, he headed towards where he saw the cops going.

"Hello, this is Solar Sentinel. I am following the officers that are following the suspects. I am well above you. If you run into any trouble, don't hesitate to let me know. I'll be down there in a flash, over."

He knew that there could be a great deal more criminals at the destination, and was prepared to intervene if things looked bad. He wasn't about to let the officers get hurt. Not on his watch.

It only took Solar Sentinel a few moments to catch up with the police cars in pursuit of the van.  Though the two squad cars did not have their lights on, from his vantage point in the sky, it was not too difficult to locate them.  Luckily, because of the tracking device, they were able to follow well behind the van, so as not to tip off its occupants.

"Copy Solar Sentinel, this is car 17, good to know you're up there."  Replied one of the police officers over the radio.

The pursuit lasted close to ten minutes, as the van had slowed down to a more normal speed.  The police cars, with Solar Sentinel high above, continued to maintain their distance, and thus far the occupants of the van had not done anything to endanger any innocent bystanders.  There were points where they had to slow down some, or alter their path, as the van was stopped by traffic lights, so the pace was rather slow, particularly for Solar Sentinel.

As they reached the edge of a rather rundown section of Southside, a call came over the police band.  "All units, be advised, the target vehicle as come to a halt outside an intersection."

Solar Sentinel followed close behind and stopped once he reached where the police where. He stayed above them,  high in the air and waiting for the police to act. While he could probably stop them, he figured it was better to wait for the police to act. That way, if there were other criminals, they could take the lot of them down in one fell swoop.

Not that it mattered anyway. Solar Sentinel knew he was fast enough to arrive on scene in a split second. He could encircle the globe in less than an hour, he could certainly drop down and help the police quickly.

The police cars below all came to a halt for the moment, waiting to see if the vehicle's stop was just temporary or whether it had reached its destination.  There were calls over the radio as the dispatchers that had been monitoring the tracking device provided the address for where the van had stopped.  Solar Sentinel had a rough idea where the address was, though he did not have a good angle at the moment to see the street it was on.  It was about three blocks away from where he and police cars below were holding, down a side street from the one they were on, so there were buildings between them and the address.  The hero also heard a number of calls about other units that were on their way towards the area.

After a couple of tense minutes, it was generally decided that the van had reached its destination and that the units should start trying to set up a perimeter around the block while waiting for back up.  The squad cars down below Solar Sentinel had just begun moving when he heard a message over the radio from one of the dispatchers that had been monitoring the van.  "Damn, the tracker just went dead.  They must have found it!"

Well, guess it's time to act. he thought to himself. He hurled forward at blistering speed before spotting a building with a skylight. When he saw that there was a van, and more to the point, movement within the building, he decided to act. It was simple, really. The glass was not likely built to handle the full force of his energy blasts, and if there were in fact people in the garage, he had a plan to stop them.

He blasted through the window and stopped himself in mid air. The blue glow that surrounded his body shone bright, and he scanned the room for threats.

The skylight easily exploded, sending bits of glass raining down into the garage area below to the startled yells from several men that were moving around the van.  Dropping down into the room below and coming to a stop to hover, Solar Sentinel saw six men scatted about in the room around the van.

A pair were at a card table that had been set up a short distance from the van around which some folding chairs sat.  They appeared to be in the process of putting stacks of money back into some bags.  Two pistols were located on the table near them.  A third man, the only one who appeared less startled than the others in the room, was standing near the table, and his hand was going for a pistol inside his jacket.

Two other men had been moving around the van, apparently gathering some things up they did not want to leave behind, as each had their arms filled with a number of miscellaneous objects.

The last man in the room had just opened the door to the driver's seat of the van.

He didn't give them the chance to fight back.

He decided to try a new trick. Something he hadn't really done before. He felt the energy in him swell as his body burst into azure flame. He concentrated it all into the center of his being before sending out a bright blue wave of energy.

A burst of cosmic fire, exploding outward. It slammed into them all as the room filled with blue light. He had done this trick only once or twice before. It was tiring to do, and he knew it would hurt them a lot more than it hurt him.

Once the light subsided, he landed and stumbled for a split second. He decided that he would either never pull that trick again, or get better at pulling it.

As Solar Sentinel released the burst of cosmic energy, most of the thugs scattered about the room were too surprised to even try to avoid the wave of energy.  One tried to dive behind out of the way, but even that prove futile, as the cosmic energy slammed into him and sent him sprawling on the concrete floor.  The others were blown backward by the force of the burst, the table and chairs set up to one side overturned and broken.  The stacks of money that had been on the table came apart, sending individual bills into the air.

As the hero landed on the ground, he saw no movement from any of the men now scattered about the room.  Outside, he could hear the sound of police sirens as the squad cars closed in to surround the building.

Solar Sentinel walked over to the garage door and hit the button to raise it. He levitated into the air and flew outside. He held his hands up, to clearly show that he was unarmed, but he assumed the police would recognize him from when he helped them earlier.

"They're all out in there, but I'd recommend moving quickly. Don't want any of them to wake up and make a run for it." He said.

He was glad that, apparently, no one had been seriously hurt. Except for the criminals themselves, and he knew none of them would have any injuries beyond a few bruises or a concussion. All in all, it could have gone much, much worse.

Opening the garage door, Solar Sentinel was greeted to the sight of the squad cars pulling up around the building.  Officers quickly exiting and getting behind their vehicles with their weapons at the ready.  Once he made the call that the situation was under control, the officers moved forward and entered the garage, securing the unconscious thugs and starting a further sweep of the building which turned up no additional suspects.

A short while later, a sergeant was just finishing getting a full statement from Solar sentinel outside, the number of squad cars on the scene having grown considerably.  Other officers were busy removing bagged evidence, after photos had been taken of everything.

"Well, thanks for all your help Solar Sentinel."  The officer said as he closed his notepad.  "The word is the officers injured back at the bank will all be fine, nothing too serious.  Even though we could have tracked those guys back here, we could have had a big problem if that fire using guy was waiting here with them."

"Happy to help." He said. "That fire guy was very dangerous. He nearly had me a couple of times. I'm wondering who he is and where he got those powers from." He was curious. This wasn't good, at all. His powers were strange, nothing he'd quite seen before. He resolved to keep an eye out for anything that could lead to discovering who or what that fire user was.
