Shadowboxer Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 I rolled a 16 to grab the ladder and a 23 against the area attack. NR has Evasion 2, so he doesn't take half-damage from a successful save against an area attack. And that was a particularly nasty trap, Veiled Malice! Very cool.
Veiled Malice Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Okay, very good, both of you. Now, here's what happened: Grim had a slightly lower DC to retain her hold on the ladder, because of the buffer provided by Nightrival. Unfortunately, that's rendered moot because she is now Bruised and Stunned, and falling towards the fire below her. Nightrival, of course, stands only slightly singed by the same flames and is more than capable of acting normally. It's your move, Heritage. (Oh, and thanks, SB. That's considerably better than what Heritage called me in the chat. )
Shadowboxer Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 I, too, have felt the wrath of outraged players. After Heritage moves, is there a chance to catch Grim before she hits the bottom? NR is still tied to the ceiling latch, unless that got burned off.
Veiled Malice Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Oh yeah, no problem there. You'll have ample time. And he was kidding in the chat. (At least I think he was... :? )
Heritage Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Does Grim get an action when she's stunned? I don't have my book with me, but I thought I lost a round or something, or is it just a minus on actions?
Shadowboxer Posted May 5, 2008 Author Posted May 5, 2008 When your character is stunned, she cannot take actions until the following round.
Veiled Malice Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Yeah, you are without actions, but I thought you could make a reaction post or something.
Heritage Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 When your character is stunned, she cannot take actions until the following round. Soooooo, does this mean Grim gets to spend the next round falling into the flames, unable to save herself? 'Cause that sounds like a really bad round to be stunned in :o
Heritage Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Yeah, you are without actions, but I thought you could make a reaction post or something. Or just type crackling sizzling sound effects  Nah, I will type something useful; say, might this be a job for Hero Points? I was going to save mine, but now things look sort of horrible for poor little Grim
Veiled Malice Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Or you can put your faith in the SupermanlyTM Nightrival and hope he catches you. But yes, you can burn a HP to become unstunned, then try to make another Reflex save to catch the ladder as you fall.
Heritage Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Or you can put your faith in the SupermanlyTM Nightrival and hope he catches you. But yes, you can burn a HP to become unstunned, then try to make another Reflex save to catch the ladder as you fall. Ok, I think I'm gonna trust in Nightrival for now :o
Veiled Malice Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Well, technically, you're not "knocked out", you're just "reeling from the pain/shock incurred", but you have it mostly right.
Shadowboxer Posted May 8, 2008 Author Posted May 8, 2008 My rescue attempt has been posted. We'll wait to see if I rolled high enough. :)
Heritage Posted May 8, 2008 Posted May 8, 2008 Well, technically, you're not "knocked out", you're just "reeling from the pain/shock incurred", but you have it mostly right. Maybe I should have said 'blacked out' - I meant to imply it was temporary.
Veiled Malice Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 Alright, Heritage. Grim is up and about again, but the situation seems to be just like her name. You're trapped between two raging infernos, and the one above you is slowly cooking the both of you. Worse, the platform has almost completely retracted into the wall now. The same is true of the ladder. But don't worry. I wouldn't put you in an inescapable deathtrap this early in the game. ;)
Veiled Malice Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Feel free to continue probing - nothing seems to be happening right now. But it's so much cooler in the Death Box! Did I say Death Box? I meant happy box, where all your dreams will come true! ;)
Shadowboxer Posted May 23, 2008 Author Posted May 23, 2008 Did I mention I love Happy Boxes? Let me in there!
Shadowboxer Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 Sorry for the delay - I've been away. I'll post tomorrow.
Veiled Malice Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Sorry for the delay - I've been lazy. I'll get to posting directly.
Veiled Malice Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 Okay, this riddle is freaking hard, even I'll admit it. There's like three levels of meaning in there from what I've seen, so I'll be giving you some help if you need it. First, both of you give me an INT check. Add in any ranks you have for Knowledge: History or any other scientific disciplines. (Which I don't think either of you have. Sorry. ) Also, use Google to look up the hints. It should help.
Heritage Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 That may be my shortest post ever, but I couldn't think of anything to add to it; I think it's perfect as it is ;)
Shadowboxer Posted June 3, 2008 Author Posted June 3, 2008 I rolled a 15 for the Intelligence check. Not bad! I'm going to work on the riddle during the day and post something tonight. Nice work, V_M. :D
Veiled Malice Posted June 3, 2008 Posted June 3, 2008 Alright, well, that roll will get you this: nothing the Warden said was just hot air. Even his goodbye had meaning. "Ciao" being in Italian, it stands to reason that both of the former clues would be tied to Italy.
Heritage Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 Sorry, I was so busy being glib in my post that I forgot to give you an Intelligence check, not that it will get me much.
Veiled Malice Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 Remember, he said to "combine" the two clues. Mayhap that means take the clues and reorganize them in some way? Like take the name and the thing and see what comes up on Google? :D
