Ari Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 OOC thread for rolls and resolutions for thread. Weird times in Small Town, Arizona, U.S.A. Nick, Equinox and Pitch investigate!
trollthumper Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Knowledge (arcane lore) check on both the sigils and the snake: 29.
Supercape Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Tagging this. If any other snakes are around to ask, ill ask 'em! (COmprehend limited to animals associated with dev'lry. Which I guess snakes are!)
Ari Posted June 10, 2014 Author Posted June 10, 2014 Nick discerns from the language of the runes, not to mention the enormous snake, that this is some kind of summoning circle directed to the realm of Yig, ancient Lord of Serpents. The circle is somehow making a barrier between living things inside and outside the circle, with neither able to pass easily to the other side. The flies buzzing around are pretty unhappy about that. There aren't any spirits around either. Not even the normal ones that gather when life passes. Sun's still hammering down, so the cold-bloods are still active, and the hillside does have its share of snakes.
Ari Posted July 13, 2014 Author Posted July 13, 2014 As always, feel free to make any rolls that seem applicable.
Supercape Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Ill throw in a diplomacy roll if its needed. 1d20+6=22 Nothing else for now, but I guess some knowledge rolls might be upcoming?
Ari Posted July 17, 2014 Author Posted July 17, 2014 That works! From Indifferent to Friendly. And yes, Knowledge(Arcane Lore) and Theology/Philosophy would be good to roll for. Also 'Tumlin' is a real name. Which just blows my mind.
trollthumper Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Welp. Nick does not have Analytical on his magic sight, so I think I'm going to pull back towards the runes and activate the Postcognition part of Banshee Wail. Or maybe not.
Supercape Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 So just for fun, Pitch will make some rolls! 1d20+5=12, 1d20+5=13 Not exactly her expertise, but might throw up something basic.
Ari Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 The magic is life magic, and using the name of the town has pretty major symbolic significance, but how or why she can't quite grasp. troll, Nick's prescience is thwarted by a surge of chaotic life-magic, something that can't have been either accidental or residual. He'd need to take a look to be sure, but something might be watching him and Equinox.
trollthumper Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 Well, then. Time for stunting.Super-Senses 12 (Death Awareness Extended 2 [1000 ft.], Detect Ghosts [Mental] Ranged 2 [100 ft.], Detect Magic Acute Ranged 2 [100 ft.]) [12 PP]Becomes...Super-Senses 12 (Detect Ghosts [Mental] Ranged [10 ft.], Detect Magic Acute Analytical Tracking [Half-Speed] Ranged 2 [100 ft.], Visual Counters Concealment) [12 PP]And that's a 25 on the Notice check.
Ari Posted July 29, 2014 Author Posted July 29, 2014 An absolutely gargantuan mass of life-magic energy is looming over the hillside, looking down at the mages. It resembles a brilliant silver chimera, made up of both real and potential living things. Possibility and the promise of creation pulse from it, all directed by some singular mind that gives it form and purpose. Like a smoke-plume, it billows out of the town river below. Nick also detects that some ghosts are in the mix somewhere.
Ecalsneerg Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Skill Mastery on K Arcane for 25, plus rolling Notice to check out the ley line http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4626558/ (23)
Ari Posted September 2, 2014 Author Posted September 2, 2014 Equinox's magical learnings and keen eye let her in on a little secret: the ley line coursing through the earth and water below isn't anything like the harsh, angular dragon lines Ghorummaz carved into place eons ago. It's the result of guiding elemental force, bending it and binding it to one direction and purpose. It seems to draw most of its authority from the narrow spring river, which has all the signs of having been around for a long, long time. It's barely stable, and only really works by sheer momentum, but it's powerful enough and a feat of magical engineering all the same. As it's not connected to the larger network, its likely source is the spring upriver.
Supercape Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 As we have a pause, Boosting the Motorcycle to STR 30 and Speed 7, for the power!
Ari Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 The motorcycle hits a barrier of force, dimensional energies twisted into a pseudo-wall that keeps certain living spirits out catching Pitch and Equinox as they're flung out. The vehicle is undamaged but flung a significant distance backwards. A different sort of brute force might be more applicable... troll, Springsvale attempts to pull a fast verbal one on Nick with a Bluff roll of 24. Nick's Attractive bonus to Bluff comes into play for Mystical Reasons.
Ecalsneerg Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Ari, can I get a K: Arcane on 25 to read the coffin?
Ari Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 No, but Equinox does have a chance to hit on the right aspect of mystic wisdom if she matches a DC30!
trollthumper Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Ah, missed that bit. 23. Hero Point.29. Much better.
Ari Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) Sorry Ecal, really, I keep forgetting this, it's dumb. Proper exposition in a couple hours. EDIT: Ecalsneerg, the runes(and general power surrouding the coffin) are as archaic as the dragon line coursing through it, tapping into primal elemental forces and acting as a conduit to direct them. The generative power it emits is far beyond what the surrouding desert would normally be able to reach, making it both a magnet and source of life. There's a few rumors in the Southwest American tribes that some of their shamans found ways to give up their lives to lend their energy to the world around them by forcing their bodies into the spiritual realm, but nothing even remotely on this level. No single person, no matter how effervescent, could do something like this. trollthumper, Springsvale is lying. More specifically, lying about how useful the summoned creatures are to it. Edited October 10, 2014 by Arichamus
trollthumper Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Ah. Is there any chance to still perceive the Springsvale spirit in all its multitudes? If so, may I make a Notice check to see if I can find the Servitor of Yig amongst its corpus.Does a 22 allow me to spot the snake?
Ari Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Yep. It is a little tricky to make out visually, being silver on silver, but the foreign magic hasn't yet been totally absorbed. It's there all right.
trollthumper Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 A 30 on Nick's Knowledge (arcane lore) check. A 24 on his Notice check.
Ari Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Those both make it easy. Arcane Lore: the deserts around Magic Mesa, even miles from the plateau, have a reputation for bad nights. With the symbolic departure of the Sun, powers from other worlds(or at least shades of them) can move into the human world. They can only invade when around people using magic to twist the dimensional gates, however, but that makes them much more likely to cooperate with summoners they find. Notice: there is a nexus of dimensional power around the town. It just became visible as the sun started to vanish below the horizon.
