Supercape Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Hi folks, I have been wanting to use an old restautant/gambling joint called the High Steaks (yes, I know, pun) again, and am contemplating running a thread there. Any interest? Its going to be about high society, secret IDs, card cheats, super powered gamblers, thugs beating you up to drop out of the game, and a priceless Daka Crystal. A bit of Casino Royale, lots of socialising, cheating, and deception, and of course some strange Daka empowerement madness at the end! Will be a slow burner, probably, but depends on how it goes and what you do. 3 PCs tops (if there is any interest at all).
Heritage Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 You know, put Grim down for this! Shes good at almost every skill you listed, and she grew up in Atlantic City, so she knows this world well.
Thunder King Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Tyrone Mendoza, aka Graft, may actually be fit for this. He has good social skills all around and a reasonable level of intelligence, wisdom and charisma.
Heritage Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) Sounds cool to me! What would be the hook to draw us in? Edited August 3, 2014 by Heritage
Brown Dynamite Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 This is right up Foreshadow's alley. Wouldn't be the first card game he cheated at for necessity.
Heritage Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 (edited) So let's start figuring out hooks; perhaps foolishly, I got rid of Grim's Connections and Contacts to reflect her three years of being out of the loop, but there are other options. 1. News reports. Either online or in print, or maybe even somthing on a police scanner (I think her HQ might cover that). 2. NPC involvement. Perhaps one of the NPCs in our lives runs up a gambling debt or the like? For Grim's part, I couild see her new hire Cred0 thinking he was smart enought of beat the mob, then getting in over his head. 3. Crazy random happenstance. Silly but still a comic book staple; omne or more Pcs are out for a night on the town, and they see something suspicious. Obviosuly some or all of these can be combined. Brown Dynamite Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 It could be a combination of factors. Bringing in three PCs for different reasons. Though let's see what would most likely pull Foreshadow. Erick could have been told by those high falutin society types that take part in the games to begin with. Or through a premonition. If foresight's good for one thing, it's an easy hook on his end. The NPC involvement could be extended to just catching word of it by keeping an ear to a ground. Perhaps overhearing plans to join up in a big game for the Daka Crystal. Or a card left behind after a few thugs were introduced to a fist or two. Of course knowing someone who got a large debt to their name like you suggested for Cred0 works. Graft certainly runs into enough people with money problems where he works.
Heritage Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Duh, I forgot Foreshadow is possibly the easiest hero to bring into a thread! For Grim, I'm liking the Cred0 connection; it sort of fits in nice with her 'mother hen' attitude towards her employees.
Supercape Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 It could be a combination of factors. Bringing in three PCs for different reasons. Though let's see what would most likely pull Foreshadow. This was my inclination, and perhaps more. The three different PCs with different agenda's. To start off though, sounding you out about whether you want to play cards and drink vodka martini's as secret ID or as a hero? Then go from there!
Heritage Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Grim would be going undercover, as some tall, glamorous thing.
Heritage Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Well as a big blonde shiksa goddess, so yeah, kinda the same thing
Supercape Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Ok! So first off, Revenant has been to High Steaks before, so I am inclined to push myself to four if that is ok. Fair warning, I start to crumble at four! Tiff is a really decent person, so I am sure she would not mind if you guys would rather keep it to three. The premise: An enormous Daka crystal has been smuggled out of Africa. Nobody knows how, or why, but it is essentially an illegal good with a sky high price. It is being sold at the High Steaks, by the most unusual of means. A poker game. THe winner takes the prize, the seller takes all of the cash. Essentially, the more cash you bring to the table, the more likely you are to win. And boy, people do want this. The advertisement and selling of the game is all done under legal jargon and euphamism. With a mystery prize! So how do your heroes hook in? Grimalkin may be dimly aware of the game, and attending for interest and recreation, maybe she is a gambler? maybe she is accompanying some charming old man, a card dealer himself, who frequents the shop? Graft may have heard of the game from a beat up poker player who was down on his luck. He came in with a head injury, mumbling about the cheatin' swine at the High Steaks, and how they wont let him risk all in getting the "ultimate prize". He has debts to pay, and this would be his last chance. Does Graft let him try? accompany him? or sedate him and go himself? Foreshadow has taken over the identity of a card cheat he apprehended. What are the man's links and intentions? Does he turn up halfway through the game? Revenant knows the High Steaks, after a vampire attack there. With her legal nose, she can see through the thinly veiled legal loopholes about the Card Game. Is her nemesis, the Master, taunting her again? Will he appear himself? Ill set the thread up imminently!
Brown Dynamite Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 Also belated mention but I have no qualms with the inclusion of Tif's Revenant
