"Don't worry man.  You'll get to go home to your girl looking pretty.  Invasion or not, I'm not leaving anyone behind..  Pity they obviously can't feel fear.  If they could understand what they were about to walk into.  They might do the smart thing and run away."

Foreshadow then smiled before raising his escrima sticks, having separated them from the bo staff configuration, into the air and tapping them together. A loud repetitive metal clank.  "Well that's alright.  I like the hard way too"  For a guy armed with nothing but a set of staves that could combine into a bigger staff Foreshadow was pretty relaxed.

Holding the line it is then.

Agnus smiled up at the Italian hero as her she recovered a little her aura flared back into life.

“If we keep doing this people are going to start to talk. Or at least talk more, you should see the gossip columns about me!” she smiled at the other hero, finding humour in even this possibly dire situation.

She gently floated away from the other hero and floated beside her the light surrounding her seeming to glow briefly brighter as arms out her wounds seemed to fade just a little. Hopefully they wouldn’t have to face even worse wounds in the next assault.

Stella gave a small smile and then lifted back up into the air toward were Young Britannia was still hovering.  The two light wielding heroines both healed themselves just as the next wave of Communion needle fighters came into view.

The Communion spacecraft wasted no time in taking the initiative, opening fire with the green energy that crackled along their hulls.  The blasts streaked through the night sky, a few of the allied aircraft exploding as they were stuck by the attacks.  Two others narrowly missed both Young Britannia and Stella, while others struck the area around the UNISON headquarters and the building itself, sending bits of debris flying in various directions and causing some of the UNISON guards to scatter for cover.

Stella wasted no time in returning fire, sending a blast of light up toward the needle fighter that had just shot at her.  The blast hit the Communion ship dead center, causing it to explode in a small ball of flame.  But still dozens more were streaking downward toward the UNISON headquarters.

Agnus was no more ready for all this than the last time that the Communion wave had attacked, but she was determined that they wouldn’t get through. If they didn’t she suspected that there wouldn’t be anyone left to take up the mantle of Britannia, young or otherwise.

“When this is over remind me to buy everyone a drink, I know this lovely little place.”

As she prattled away she fired off another blast of light at one of the approaching ship, more to calm her nerves than for conversations. She doubted anyone was listening and if they were she just owed an entire army a drink or two.

Charlie tensed up as explosions started to rip across the sky again. Every object he saw, he tried to make out its trajectory. Is it another landing pod full of antibodies? Or just more fighters he couldn't reach to help defend against.

"I don't think there's enough of a mind there for them to recognize the easy way. Just have to swat 'em like flies. I'm glad I've got this bug zapper." He let the electrical whip slap against the ground with a shower of sparks while he chatted with Foreshadow and waited.

With the new wave of Communion fighters streaking down from the dark sky, Professor Chiron aimed the weapons pods on the flanks of his cybernetic horse body toward the sky, opening fire at the needle like spacecraft once more.  Another of the Communion ships exploded in a bright flash from the blast, joined by nearly a dozen more as the allied fighter jets scored more hits with their rapidly dwindling supply of missiles.

But there were still many more of the Communion spacecraft, some breaking off to try to engage the air defenders, a few more allied fighter planes exploding after being struck by the blasts of green energy.  Stella and Young Britannia managed to once again dodge attacks fired at them, as Stella blasted another needle fighter out of the sky.  But over half a dozen more of the Communion ships sped past the aerial dogfight. Four of them slammed into the grounds around the UNISON building, splitting open to revel the Communion antibodies riding within.  But a pair of the needle fighters actually crashed into the upper floors of the UNISON building itself, disappearing from the sight of the defenders as glass and debris rained down in some places.

Professor Chiron eyed one of the needle fighters that had landed not far from where he and Ulysses were currently positioned, the antibodies just starting to emerge.  "I am going to try to continue to keep more of them of the ground for the moment."  The cybernetic hero stated to Ulysses as he fired his weapon pods once more at a needle fighter diving down toward the UNISON headquarters.  The blast struck the fighter squarely, causing it to explode in a bright ball of flame.

Four antibodies started rushing forward, charging toward Professor Chiron and Ulysses, their hands crackling with green energy.  On the opposite side of the building, another four of the Communion foot soldiers started to rush toward Foreshadow and Coiled Lightning...

Foreshadow jumped forward and smashed his knee towards the first Antibody that came near.  But, the Antibody literally and liberally pushed the gymnast off its body and continued pushing forward.  Completely unphased by the attack.  Much to Foreshadow's chagrin.  "So, that was just a refresher on what not to do."  He casually told Coiled Lightning.

"I hope the next invading force isn't robots.  They're always such a pain."  Foreshadow murmured.  Although if no alien invasions were on the table, he'd take that option.  Always someone trying to kick around their not so quite heap of rock.  One would think they'd get together and tell stories about why not to mess with Earth.

Actually by that logic, makes sense why no one made out of Flesh and Blood is stupid enough to attack without heaps of expendable machines.

Ulysses in turn gives a curt nod of acknowledgement before charging back into the thick of things, fists swinging; though still slightly punch drunk from his injuries he only manages to clobber one of the beastly bots before he's caught off guard and that familiar tingle thrums through his nervous system, rendering him shocked still and somewhat disorientated from the strange surge of energy. "Ahhh bother." he manages through a jittering mouth as he begins to hastily try and reassert control of his limbs.

“Well that’s not fair, there firing back on us. I’m sure there should be a law against this, i’m pretty sure there are several laws against it.”

With so much going on in the sky it was impossible to keep track of everything, though she suspected that some heroes could, so she picked a little corner of the sky for her and her wingmen to keep each other safe.

Following one group of needleship she fired off another burst of light towards them, by now having a pretty good feeling for where and when it be in range.

Charlie bit back a moment of hesitation as he saw the antibodies charging again. His wound might be healed, but he could still remember what the communion foot soldiers could do. But this wasn't time to run, just to wait for the right moment.

As they drew close enough, the whip lashed out, almost as if of its own volition, sparks flying as it slashed across one antibody's chest then snapping the other's head back. Egged on by his success, he couldn't hold back his enthusiasm and stepped forward to crack his whip against each of the others. Three of the creatures were left crumpled on the ground.

"Something like that would be better, I think." he joked to Foreshadow.

It is with clenched teeth and sheer determination that Alexander cross forces his scattered mind into focus and his muscles into motion, lashing out with his leg this time and sending the antibody that had just struck skittering away across the ground, he presses his advantage and follows through with his right arm, hammering it forth into the center of the pectoral of the second drone and sending it bouncing after its accomplice.

The needle fighters in the air continued swarming about, shooting at the allied fighter craft and other defenders.  One of the green energy blasts struck Stella, but the glowing forcefield around the Itallian heroine absorbed the blast.  Another blast of green energy streaked past Young Britannia.

Stella turned back toward the needle fighter that has shot at her, firing a blast of light back at it in return.  This time the Communion fighter's metallic hull deflected the blast as it flew past the glowing heroine.  Young Britannia meanwhile had more success, as she blasted another of the fighters out of the sky.

But even as the dogfight continued in the air, a half dozen more of the needle fighters slipped past the aerial battle and dove down toward the UNISON headquarters bellow...

Foreshadow stepped in close and smacked an Antibody with enough force to get its attention.  It swung and rolled underneath Striking it in the leg.  Only it refused to drop.  Retreating he'd lean out of the way of a series of furious swipes.  Time he bent back to avoid a blow, Foreshadow would follow it up with a strike.  By the end he had struck the Antibody no less than five times with his escrima sticks.  And it still held.

He had the machine's timing perfectly.  Able to bend out of the way of an attack from any angle.  The game of cat and mouse continued until finally Foreshadow's repeated assault felled it.  The Antibody's torso and head smashed to bits collapsing in front of Foreshadow.  "Don't you wish you felt pain now?"

Foreshadow asked the other Antibodies in the area.

Seeing that Foreshadow was eventually going to topple the Antibody he faced, Coiled Lightning scanned the nearby area. He saw some UNISON soldier under assault and rushed over to help. "It's why we're here." he smiled as his swung his whip, cracking it with a shower of spark against the head of each of two antibodies sending them crashing backwards to fall to the ground.

He breathed heavily as he looked around, feeling sweat collect in his costume. Safe for the moment, he tipped his hat to the soldiers. "We all holding up alright?"

With one of the antibodies having moved up to attack him, Professor Chiron turned his attention away from the needle fighters and toward the immediate threat.  The Greek hero delivered a solid blow with one of his gauntlet covered hands, smashing in the chest of the cybernetic threat and sending it flying backward to the ground.

The UNISON soldiers Coiled Lighting had assisted gave him an appreciative nod, as one resumed firing on another antibody emerging from a downed needle fighter, while another started pulling an injured comrade away from the front line.

But even as the heroes managed to clear their immediate area of Communion, more of the antibodies swarmed forward, as Synapse's mental voice came over the psychic link she had reestablished.  We have got some of these buggers in the building.  I am going to do my best to keep track of their movement, right now they are on the upper floors which are deserted.

Three antibodies rushed towards Foreshadow, the first two moving right after each other, their slashing claws aimed and causing the agile hero to move into the path of the third's attack.  But though Foreshadow seemed to be moving directly into the path of that attack, the precognitive hero knew exactly what was going on, and easily deflected the last attack with one of his escrima.

A pair of antibodies closed with Coiled Lightning, the first missing with a slash.  But the second managed to score a hit, the claw biting into Coiled Lightning's left thigh.

On the other side of the building, another antibody closed with Professor Chiron, but the Greek hero managed to block the antibody's attack.  Ulysses similarly found himself faced once again with a pair of antibodies, but managed to avoided their claws that crackled with green energy, although one just narrowly.

Huffing a little bit from the exertion of twisting himself out of the way of those glowing claws ulysses none the less has a plan formed in his mind and in a blur of motion he'd raced off to the side, grasped the tip of a downed needle ship (crunching its nose-cone in his grasp ever so slightly) and raced back, bringing it to bare like an oversized rounders bat in a sweep, feeling four definate impacts  on the hull and hearing the thump of launched foes landing on the ground.

Up in the sky, Communion needle fighters continue to dart about, trading fire with the allied fighter aircraft and the two glowing heroines flying close together.  A group of four needle fighters level out and open fire on Stella and Young Britannia.  Flashes of green energy streak around the two young women, as one of the Communion fighters manages to score a hit on Young Britannia.

Stella sends a blast of light back in return, managing to blast one of the four out of the sky as the other three streak by.

As several more needle fighters dive down towards the area around the UNISON building, one opens fire on Ulysses as it descends.  The blasts of green energy land off to one side of the steam powered hero, blasting small craters in the ground.  The fighter, along with several others, then crashed down to the surface, its sides opening to release the antibodies contained within.

You've go to be ugh, be right there.   Foreshadow slammed both escrima sticks together and charged forward towards his attackers.  Twirling the bo staff in the air he managed to strike all three.  Immediately stepping to the outside guard for the rightmost Antibody he swept it off its feet with a quick motion.   Plunging the bo staff into its face.  The middle Antibody rushed towards the gymnast who had already taken flight.  Sailing over the Antibody's shoulders and using them as a launching pad so as to slam his staff down hard on the opposite Antibody.  "Argh!"  Foreshadow exclaimed while twisting around to smack the remaining Antibody across its head as hard as he could muster.

Not even taking time to catch his breath after his aggressive display Foreshadow began running back in towards the building calling out words of encouragement to Coiled Lightning all the way there.  "I'm going to take care of the stragglers inside.  You got this man!"

Posted

"Yeah, I think I can hold them off out here." Lightning called back to Foreshadow, with all the confidence he could express. The claw that had ripped across his thigh didn't hurt enough to affect his fighting yet, but if any more got through, who knew.

"We can take you down as fast as you come." He said as he squared off against three more antibodies. Crack Crack Crack. He had lost count of how many times he'd seen his trusty whip knock the alien soldiers down. As long as they kept going down this easy, he'd be ok.

With antibodies swarming in toward the UNISON building, Professor Chiron left the aerial battle to the fighters and those that could fly.  The Greek hero instead focused on the antibody right in front of him who had just tried to attack him.  A powerful blow sent the antibody tumbling backward.

But Professor Chrion was not clear of enemies for long, as another pair of antibodies rushed over.  Their wicked claws lashed out, but the cybernetic hero was able to avoid each attack.

The other heroes guarding the grounds of the building also found themselves under attack as well.  Foreshadow easily avoided the two antibodies that came after him.  Ulysses managed to keep himself from being shocked by either of the antibodies that charged him, although one came very close.  Coiled Lighting was a bit less fortunate.  Although he dodge aside from the first antibody, a second jumped behind him, its claw racking across his upper back.

As Agnus bobbed and weaved through the air she couldn’t help but feel that it was shame that such an enjoyable thing as just flying around had to be ruined by fighting. Not that everyone would stop fighting and go home so she could enjoy flying around for a bit.

So she choose to take out her frustration by, as she was ironically aware, blasting at another one of the Needleships that currently filled the sky. It was difficult to tell if they were making a serious dent in their numbers but hopefully things were starting to get better.

Tossing the ship into the air like a softball as the antibodies approach him, ulysses battle instincts, now sharpened by the knowledge they could hurt the man beneath the steam and steel, ducks and weaves clumsily to avoid the crackling claws of the antibodies before him, just long enough for him to spot an opening and grasp the descending ship by its point once again, leaving fresh indentations of his fingers in its mass as he brings it down like a swatter on top of his assailants before they can regain there footing and press him further.

More and more of the sleek needle fighters began moving into view as they dropped down from orbit towards the UNISON headquarters.  The Communion certainly appeared to be increasing the ferocity of their attack.  Among the needle fighters, larger vessels could also be seen, heading straight for the grounds around the building and ignoring the aerial dogfight.

Both Stella and Young Britannia found themselves pursued by a pair of the needle fighters, the Communion space craft opening fire with the green energy blasts that they used.  In both cases the heroines managed to dodge one of the attacking needle fighters, but the second of the pairs each scored hits.

Stella was sent spinning out of control from the force of the blast that hit her.  She barely managed to remain conscious, but was dazed and disoriented, her flight shutting off as she began to plummet toward the ground once more.

Well over a dozen of the needle fighters flew past the aerial combat and toward the UNISON building.  On the way down, one of them strafed Ulysses, the green blasts of energy knocking the steam powered hero back a step and causing him to drop the improvised weapon he was using as he was dazed by the attack.

The needle fighters buried themselves into the ground around the building, opening their sides to discharge the antibodies waiting inside...

Foreshadow jumped into the air and spun around.  Kicking both Antibodies directly in the head and forcing them to break some distance from the hero.  Upon landing, he stepped backwards thrusting his bo staff into the leftmost Antibody.  And then using nothing but raw adrenaline he smashed one Antibody into the other.  Grabbing hold of the one not currently impaled and using the staff to repeatedly bring the Communion troops into each other until they broken machinery loosened enough that his staff practically retrieved itself.

"Learn to leave things be."  Foreshadow didn't have time to analyze his less than graceful  handling of the troops in front of him.  The ground continued to get flooded with more to begin with.  He also couldn't exactly describe them as mindless.  Sure, they fought with reckless abandon.  But, they knew how to attack a key position for sure.  There was a strategic mind behind the veil.  Probably some sort of supercomputer.

Alright Synapse, I'm on the way.  Any idea where the Antibodies inside went?
