Alex, although a bit unnerved by the interaction, tried to send back a message through her mind: Sure. Okay. See what you can find.

She felt useless here. Nothing but her intellect to stop a micro-galactic war and to redeem herself as the savior of a mini-people.

Okay this may feel a little weird at first, I've never read an alien mind before. she didn't even think that this was a contradiction her own being the most alien of everyone here.

As gently as she could she probed the leader Brian looking for information about who or what they were meant to save them from, it should be easier as it right now the most important think on his mind. It took most of her concentration but she was quite capable of filtering out everything but the vital information. And being who she was she couldn't help but display thing as if it was an infodump from a TV show, voice over and all.

The realm's crisis, exposed by a high priest only too glad to share their plight, was a serious one. Lord Angstrom, a foul, demonic figure scorched into the High Priest's memory, had escaped his confinement in a lower realm and escaped to the Nano Realm with sinister intent. Raising an army of demons, devils, and other foul creatures of the Pit, he was building an army to march on the city - one that had already defeated the greatest champion of the Realm! <A quick flash of brave warriors, falling beneath infernal flames!> The Nano Priests had been summoning warriors for weeks now with no success, despite summoning magics that would have allowed them to bring whole vast armies to this place! It wasn't hard to put two and two together, and realize exactly what those tiny portals must have meant, and why the little boy who'd lived near them had been able to hear the sounds of fierce battle.

The High Priest, whose name was Kwis, thought a simple, "Will you help us?" to Miss Grue when it was all done, a message carried immediately to the others.

Daphne didn’t even hesitate, couldn’t even hesitate, when asked for help. To be honest she was going to help anyway she just wanted to know why they needed their help. In time like this she struck what she liked was her best heroic stance and used her most confident voice.

“I wouldn’t dare speak for the others but I personally will happy to help you win you freedom.â€

"I'm in. What do we need to do? How can we help?" Alex fingered her case. She thought of the little droids she carried with her and tried to think how they could possibly help. Moving things? Lifting things? What could someone like her do against an army? But then, she had to remember she was not alone. There were others here with her and they could make a powerful team if only they could all work together.

She felt herself warming up to the Grue. She had been nothing but helpful. It could be a trap, but Alex didn't think so. There's a black sheep in every bunch and maybe Miss Grue was the good-black sheep among her kind.

They wound up escorted to the edge of the city by the locals, giving the heroes a chance to cast a practiced eye over the people of the Nano Realm. It was pretty obvious that these people had very little experience with warfare, or really privation of any kind. Despite the fear that gripped the population they looked well-fed and well-dressed, the children playing in parks tinted with azure grass were happy and content despite the tension on the faces of the slitted-eyed locals. The technology looked to roughly match the planet they'd left behind, or perhaps was a little slower - they didn't see any computers or smartphones on the street, but there were puttering motorcars here and there and old-fashioned arc lights that lined the streets. Everywhere there were cheers and celebrations at the sight of them - their alien costumes and the crowd that followed them evidently making it very clear that they were the promised saviours of the people!

The edge of the city, which seemed to have a population of about thirty thousand, was walled and manned by a small contingent of armed, uniformed troops; but it was abundantly clear the wall itself was largely ceremonial, a big, blocky-looking structure whose green bricks looked to have been arranged for style rather than function. It was clear that it would slow invading troops down for no more than a few minutes. "Well, ah, here we are!" declared Kwis, waving his hands expectantly at the heroes. "The armies of Lord Angstrom will be here within a few hours, but with you here, our salvation is assured. Cheer for our champions!" he called, and the growing crowd of happy lizardmen and women began cheering for the heroes as they studied their situation.

This was strange, but he had seen strange before. Tyrone realized with growing concern that he would need to use his suit for this, and could not realistically escape from their watch to do so. So, he tapped the handle of his doctor's bag twice.

He tried not to make a show of it as the undifferentiated biomass slithered it's way out of the bag, pooling at his feet. It lifted him visibly off the ground by nearly a foot and snaked its way up his legs, shifting and changing. It became like an exoskeleton, green and glossy like an insect's shell. It crept upward on his body, shifting and moving. For brief moments bare muscle, nerve and bone were visible before the shell covered it up. He'd managed, with great patience, to keep the suit's structure at least somewhat stable while he wasn't fighting. In combat, however, it still 'forgot' to keep everything under control.

eyes formed on his head that he really didn't need, and holes for his ears that were equally unnecessary. He realized that no visible eyes or ears made the suit even more unnerving. It still lacked a mouth, but at least now people knew what to talk to.

"Sorry about that." He said. "Haven't found a nicer way to do that yet."

"So are you an alien too?" Alex shook her head. "I'm surrounded." She tried a half-smile to put the others at ease, but the truth was she was a bit uncomfortable with all this extra-terrestrial stuff, All she had were her brains and her toys, and they weren't nearly as cool as mind-reading or a bio-organic suit. At least to her. Although now she was wondering how to design a suit that could dress itself on her, much like the bio-suit just did. It had to be doable.

Daphne watched Graft’s transformation not with any form of revolution or disgust but instead with quite a bit of fascinations.

“Oh wow it a biological armour. Is it alien, does it communicate with you? If not I might have something that might be able to interface with it’s systems. That’s if you want of cause.”

She then grew to giant size, at least to everything around her, so she could look out over the walls to see what the enemy was doing.

The approaching army, visible both to the giant Miss Grue and Monkey Wrench's drones, turned out to be like something out of Freedom's myth and legend - albeit a little more modern than the usual sort. They carried muskets on their shoulders and wore shiny blue and white uniforms, yellow brass buttons gleaming in the sunlight overhead. Only their faces were inhuman; not the lizardy look of the townsfolk but narrow, hatchet-faced beaky faces that gave them the appearance of flightless birds gone to war, an impression highlighted by the long legs in those leather-shod boots and the crest of feathers that rose above the head of every man and woman in the field. Cavalry on low-running, giant weasel-things and artillery pieces shaped like roaring dragons complemented an army that could hae marched behind Napoleon...almost.

It didn't take long to find what must have been Lord Angstrom's tent - it was the only really alien piece of hardware there, a mobile golden platform (bearing a bright green fabric pyramid) that moved along the grassy plain by means of long, insect-looking mechanical legs. They had some time yet; perhaps twenty minutes, before the enemy forces arrived.

"I'm not an alien." Graft said. "Probably wearing one though." His voice dropped an octave, suddenly deep and rumbling from within the suit. The change was striking, adding height and bulk to turn the average sized doctor into a brute. "It does communicate with me, though not clearly. It seems to push images and feelings into me, nothing coherent or complex."

The suit seemed to...twitch, almost. An unusual, minor signal, unlike anything he'd experienced. It was gone as soon as he felt it. He suspected it might be reacting to Miss Grue's telepathy, but he wasn't an expert on that sort of thing, and the approaching army told him he had more to be concerned about than that.

“So we’re facing vicious animal things then.” she smiled to herself at some personal joke.

She then looked a little guilty at herself and gave Graft a rough run down of what she could make out with her eyes. As she spoke she considered several options of what they could do next.

“I think at least one of us so go meet this Lord Angstrom and see if we can negotiate some kind of truce between the two sides. After all this might all be because of some misunderstanding between the two groups. If we’re really lucky then no one here really wants to go to war.”

Alex knelt down on the ground and opened her briefcase. Five palm-sized droids, roughly shaped like garbage can lids, flew out, humming softly. She pulled out a monitor and played with some dials on the side of it. "Grue, you go talk to them. You seem to be good with people. I'll check out the army and see what they're packing." With a twist of the dial, one of the droids whistled and they all flew off in the direction of Angstrom's army.

“Oh wow really you think I should do this?” after a rather embarrassing incident before Daphne managed to suppress any kind of Psychic squee “Okay if you think it best I’ll go parley with him.”

She straightened up and made herself look as serious as she could.

“My psychic link will stay on if you need to call me, I’d suggest you send one of those little camera-bots so these people can see that we’re on the level. We don’t want them thinking we’re betraying them to an enemy.”  it was apparent from her tone that she wasn’t being sarcastic or trying to make a point.

Once everything was arranged Daphne simply stepped over the wall and strode confidently to the assembled army. She stopped at the head of the army and crouched down to speak with the most important person she could see, making absolutely sure she wouldn’t hurt anyone.

“Take me to you leader.”

The officer, resplendent in his fancy-dress uniform, feathers protruding high above his head, took one look at Miss Grue and raised his long, curved sword over his head, his riding weasel bucking and hissing frantically at the sight of the gigantic visitor from another planet. He shouted a command, and the men under his command dropped to one knee, where their ranks smoothly and professionally began pumping at handles that popped out of their rifles, the barrels beginning to glow as they worked the charging pump again and again. Meanwhile, the artillery was being brought to bear on the giantess, fast-moving weasel-borne guns that looked like roaring dragons as big as small cars. Despite Miss Grue's size and bizarre appearance, Angstrom's troops looked to be ready to deploy!

Monkey Wrench's hovering robots revealed the battle scene - and gave her a look inside the command tent! It was hard to tell at first who was Lord Angstrom, but if she knew names and evil armies well enough, she could probably guess it was the bird fellow with the biggest, gaudiest blue and gold uniform, complete with gigantic hat adorned with yellow feathers that matched those sprouting across much of his body. The big avian had spurned the boots of his fellows and was instead stalking back and forth amidst maps of the city they'd just left, raising his head in surprise as a runner arrived, shouting and gesturing to suggest he was telling him about something huge...

Alex's droids surveyed the maps, carefully noting every detail and transmitting them back to Alex's monitor.

"Here we go," she said, focusing a knob. "We've got a layout of all their battle troops. Let's see what we find."

Back inside the tent, one of the droids delicately perched on top of a chest, ready to relay whatever it was that the commander was about to say.

Graft watched the display with curiosity. Monkey Wrench and Miss Grue both approached the situation with caution and care, for a given definition thereof. The situation they were in probably put both of them on their toes as much as it did him. He was ready to fight if it came to that, and he wanted to know what was going on and, more importantly, why, before he waded into a fight with so many unknown factors.

"If things get hostile, I hope she has a game plan for getting back out. I'm not sure if we could mount a rescue at this point."

Posted

Whilst the whole situation was potentially very dangerous Miss Grue couldn't help but find that she was enjoying herself. It was like Gulliver's travels but instead of Lilliputians she was facing tiny birdmen.

"If you don't mind I'm going to sit down. If you could not shoot me that would be nice."

She kept a friendly smile on her face and her arms raised as she started to sit down, making very sure she didn't accidentally squished someone as she did so, hoping no of them would panic and do something stupid and for her painful.
