Gizmo Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Face forward, true believers! In the spirit of Marvel Team-Up and The Brave and The Bold comes Freedom's Finest! Each month I'll be running a team-up adventure for a newer player character and one of my own characters at request! The idea is to give new players and established players with new characters a chance to dive into the world of Freedom City and beyond, letting them show their stuff and jumpstarting connections with existing heroes, just like those classic team-up comics! Naturally not every team-up idea will make it into a monthly installment of Freedom's Finest, with preference being given to players who have been active for less than a year and to pitches that spark my interest! What should a pitch look like? Something along these lines: "My super-serious dark avenger and the wise-cracking Jack of all Blades arrive to foil the same jewel heist and have to overcome their personality differences to work together and stop the thieves!" "My impetuous telepath is out patrolling after curfew and runs into Midnight. Realizing she can't read his mind, she mistakes the shadowy figure for a villain and leaps into action!" "My pyrokinetic character is a student at Joseph Clark High School. Maybe he could go to Wail for advice on whether to maintain a secret identity or go public, now that he's got powers?" In other words, post in this thread telling me a little about your character, which of my PCs you think they should team-up with and why! The idea can be combat-based or purely social, so long as it's interesting! Details can be worked out in private messages and ideas that aren't picked for the following month will still be up for consideration going forward! It bears mentioning that this is hardly the only way for a new player or new character to get involved in threads, it's merely one more opportunity - and a good way for my own characters to meet some fresh faces, too! So who's available for team-ups? Glad you asked! Jack of all Blades - This community-minded, acrobatic hero creates energy swords and leads the low-power, high-impact team The Interceptors! The only thing faster than his blade is his tongue; his confrontational style is amusing to some and aggravating to others! Jill O'Cure - Younger sister to Jack of all Blades, Jill is a part-time medical student, part-time EMT, full-time source of deadpan snark. She uses her force fields and healing powers in defence of the West End and her biokinetic attacks to bring villains to their knees! Midnight II - Grandson and heir to Freedom City's original mystery man, Midnight is a shadowy figure of few words. Unmatched on a motorcycle and with a gadget for every situation, he brings his tactical acumen to the Liberty League's fight against fascism across the multiverse. Wail - The last surviving member of the 70s super team 1-800-JUSTICE, today Keith LaMarr works as a civics teacher at Joseph Clark High School. That doesn't stop Lincoln's sonic shouting, super tough, brick house of a hero from teaching fools a lesson! Ghost Girl - A cold, lonely death in the forests outside Thunder Bay was the end of one story and the start of another! This teenage poltergeist is a ray of sunshine and the chill of the grave all wrapped up in one incorporeal, effervescent package, freezing evil in its tracks! Set - In the Silver Age, Set the Destroyer was one of the Freedom League's most dangerous foes but that was then and this is now! This social media savvy rogue is looking to rehabilitate his - and just as often her - tarnished image and to look good doing it! Sekhmet - Not everyone is so ready to believe that the reincarnated Set has reformed and this warrior goddess has been saddled with keeping and eye on the trickster's antics. While she's in the mortal realm She Before Whom Evil Trembles stands ever stalwart! Rock - The stoney strongman of Captain Eclipse's crew on the Horizon is a walking quarry for hire with a heart of gold and fists of granite! Bodyguard, treasure hunter, smuggler, freedom fighter and more, you don't want to get stuck between Rock and a hard place! Nae-Dae - Rock's four-armed, foul-tempered companion, this Irreran wrench monkey can fix anything with nuts and bolts and is liable to try stealing anything that isn't nailed down! Sticking up for an underdog, though, is when she brings out the big guns! Reagent - A concoction gone wrong encased this teenage alchemist in stone, taking her from Victorian England to modern day Freedom City! If the culture shock wasn't enough, when in danger she transforms into an unstoppable behemoth: the Alkahest! You'll find links to all of their sheets in my signature. So be brave! Be bold! Be counted among Freedom's Finest!

Gizmo Posted April 4, 2015 Author Posted April 4, 2015 Addendum A few clarifications: A new Freedom's Finest Featuring thread will be started once a month, generally on the first of the month unless something specific prevents it. While some ideas suggested here may ultimately be used for other threads there will be just one new Freedom's Finest Featuring thread per month, in emulation of a monthly comic book publication. Not every thread pitched here will ultimately happen. Suggested team-ups will almost certainly outpace the monthly schedule. Freedom's Finest also is not first-come-first-served; I will be prioritizing characters most in need of exposure and more importantly characters and players with whom I'm excited to run a thread. And that's alright! It's important that newer players understand not to become discouraged if their Freedom's Finest idea isn't immediately picked up for the following month. The entire Campaign Discussion forum exists to help you find people to have threads with and there are plenty of more established players willing and able to help get you started. As stated above, this is just one of many such opportunities. In fact, this should be a great place to find out about other new characters you might want to thread with as well! With that in mind, while it's perfectly alright to be disappointed if your pitch isn't chosen remember that complaining or throwing shade at characters or players you consider somehow 'less deserving' is a sure way to drop to the bottom of the list. We're all here to have fun so play nice! If you have any further questions, ask away! Excelsior!
Mad Scientist Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 My feisty feral is following a disturbing scent trail when he crosses paths with Jill O' Cure, who is baffled by the spread of a strange and deadly disease through her beloved West End. The disease is no match for Jill's healing powers, but she can't determine its point of origin; Wildcat has trouble applying bandages, but is more than capable at following an otherwise undetectable trail. Perhaps by working together, they can put to bed a threat to the neighbourhood they both call home?
Gizmo Posted April 7, 2015 Author Posted April 7, 2015 I like it! >Freedom's Finest #1: Cat Scratch Fever and the >OOC
Hestina Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 At a memorial day celebration Hestina is standing at the end of the parade route listening to the speeches and the tributes to America's fallen. Having heard speeches like this so many times she wanders through the cemetary eventually encountering Ghost Girl. Thankfully, this also took her out of the radius of Baron Samedi's ritual which enthralled the gathered crowd. As he summons more of the dead to him from the graves his manical plot is to turn the gathered veterans into the core of a new deader army! Can the teen duo break the ritual and stop Baron Samedi from changing the gathered host from the living to the dead?
Gizmo Posted May 2, 2015 Author Posted May 2, 2015 I'll have the up an running in the next couple of days, Hestina!
R. Bluefish Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 When Ellie Stein decides to write an article for her journalism class about a local up-and-coming politician, her initially casual investigations uncover evidence that he is in fact deeply corrupt, and has ties to organized crime. Incensed, she enters her alternate persona of Echo, determined to find a way to expose him to the public for what he is. This leads her to cross paths with Jack of all Blades, who is attempting the exact same thing! They decide to work together, hoping that by cooperating, they can make his crimes known and force him to face justice.
shojikitsune Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 (edited) Zephyr is in the mall, admiring a new pair of shoes when one of the largest jewelery stores in the city is robbed! Men dressed as futuristic versions of Egyptian Soldiers (think less "King Tut" and more "Stargate") pour into the Mall, seizing the best quality stones and using high-tech weapons to cut into the vault! As Oracle tracks their minds and makes a plan to stop them, she senses ANOTHER resolute mind arriving with the same purpose! She teleports to that renowned warrior to propose an alliance! But can even the combined powers of the wise Oracle and the mighty Sehkmet stand against... Thoth?! Is this *really* the Egyptian God of Knowledge, playing at merely being a mortal genius - or a mortal who wields the powers of a god?! Why does he want these particular gemstones so badly?! Did he just send in two very large robotic Minotaurs to cover his escape?! And why isn't Set here, complaining about the destruction of her favorite clothing boutique?!(I propose that this 'Thoth' is really a mad scientist who believes he's Thoth, using a stock Battlesuit template with an Egyptian theme and weapons that invoke Egyptian legends - even if clearly technological. His goons are standard Mooks but they have futuristic body armor and a spear/laser that makes them a little more dangerous. The Minotaurs could be stock Powerhouses, giving them a fire-theme would be possible, as a reference to the Bronze Bull as well. He probably doesn't have many of either minion type, so quality over quantity. Maybe he even has a fancy chariot-like Vehicle waiting outside to pick him up, and the challenge is to stop his escape without wrecking the mall or allowing shoppers to get zapped, smashed, or run over. opinions? comments? Snide remarks? ) Edited June 9, 2015 by shojikitsune
Nexus Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Hello, I'm a fairly new player to this game and would like to join in a active place. This seems like a good place to start. Jake Manning is a writer for the local World Magazine and is eager to write more human interest stories. One story he wants to write about is one of local heroes Keith LaMarr. LaMarr is a fairly well known man in the community for his work with the local youth programs as well as his work as a teacher. After the interview Mr. LaMarr consoles one of his students, who's brother recently died of an overdose. LaMarr knows the drugs were supplied an old school gangster who LaMarr was never able to catch. Jake decides to help out as Pulsar. Pulsar has contacts and would like to help out one of his all time favorite heroes. Edited June 14, 2015 by Nexus
Gizmo Posted June 14, 2015 Author Posted June 14, 2015 Wail's identity is already public, Nexus. If you read his sheet you'll see that he's never maintained a secret identity, his history is public record.
Nexus Posted June 14, 2015 Posted June 14, 2015 I totally missed that. I can just make a few adjustments to that. :)
Gizmo Posted September 8, 2016 Author Posted September 8, 2016 There's been a long hiatus with this but in case anyone was confused this is still very much an open invitation! Pitch me your ideas, gentle readers!
Blarghy Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Alright, I'll bite. Leviathan (a young hero who envies Cowls but is terrible at being one) is out patrolling one night when he stumbles across Midnight II in the process of foiling some villain or another. Recognizing this well-known legacy, and desperate to prove himself, he rushes in to help--even if Midnight already has everything under control and prefers to not have a giant lizard bumbling through his stealthy operation.
Raveled Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 The Creepy Clown fad hits Freedom City, only this time there seems to be a more sinister undercurrent to it. Citizens who sight this gaily-colored circus psycho find themselves overcome with terror! An old woman has a nearly-fatal heart attack, a young man runs into traffic to escape the gaudy gagman, a mother almost uses her toddler as a bludgeon to find off his fearsome facade! It falls to Freedom's creepiest capes, Ghost Girl and the sinister Stranger, to uncover the mysteries of this hair-raising harlequin.
The Channeler Posted October 13, 2016 Posted October 13, 2016 I'm still under approval, but hopefully it'll go smoothly, so I'd be happy to throw my hat into the fray. Jack of Blades seems like Sam's kind of guy. Samuel Glase is working the kitchen at Rob's Diner nearby Parkside, when suddenly, the glass door is broken open. A few men carrying handguns approach. Finding himself alone in the kitchen, the new hero quickly changes into proper attire as the Channeler and takes the back exit, then loops around to the front - avoiding suspicion. By the time he's done all that, the Jack of Blades has arrived, and is in fact sneaking around to the back to get the jump on the crooks. From there, they work together to defeat the surprise robbers - Sam's first time suiting up and fighting crime.
tv50watcher Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Maybe The Rock and The Gargoyle meet up, Gargoyle being bullied in his human form as per usual. The Rock notices this and tries to help, and ends up figuring out about Gargoyles other form. Eager to see someone who is similarly stone-esque, they wait for night fall and have a fun time beating down baddies all over town. Unfortunately, Gargoyle doesn't pay attention to the amount of daylight coming up and ends up being turned to stone. The Rock doesn't see this as a problem and continues carrying him around town, just thinking his new friend is just a bit tired. He continues like this for the day, until The Gargoyle ends up in a dark spot to change back, or otherwise it becomes night again. The majority of the story probably would be focused a lot more around Rock and Gargoyle hanging out during daytime, with Gargoyle being fully aware he is being dragged along towards enemies while he is extremely vulnerable and just weeping tears of joy that he remains alive.
Kolohehonu Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 So, Hyperactive hasn't been approved yet, but hopefully he will be soon! New in town and desperate for a chance to prove himself, Hyperactive seeks out one of his personal idols, Wail for a chance to learn from the best. While Keith LaMarr normally might not bother mentoring the hotheaded showboat of a hero, he has been noticing a disturbing amount of crimes committed using deceased villains MOs. With the danger being posed to the city, Wail decides to allow Hyperactive to help out. Can these two heroes work together to solve the crimes or is Freedom City in for a bloody crime spree? Find out in a Case of a Copycat!
Kaiser6012 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Well, I'll bite - this seems like a pretty cool idea! Jill O'Cure has seen pretty much everything - being an EMT working in a superhero hotbed leads to all sorts of drama and action, let alone being one of the movers and shakers within it. But when she starts collecting petty thugs on her rounds that have quite clearly been sapped of their life energy to the point of unconsciousness, questions begin to form. Soon, they coalesce around a shadowy figure that prowls through a darkness deeper than the night, striking out and bringing terror to the streets. Who is this man people seem to know so little about, and what threat does he truly pose? Meanwhile, Vita Nexus is about to break into the big time, he just knows it - his sojourns through the seedier parts of Freedom City have been mostly fruitful and he's put away tens of muggers, robbers and various thugs in the space of a couple of months. Even better, he suspects he's hit upon something big - a good, old fashioned villainous plot that's sure to catch some attention if it were taken down. He just needs a little bit more information, possibly a lucky break or two. Then, maybe he can get the attention of some of the big names in Freedom City. Little does he know that he's already attracted attention - just not the type he was expecting... Will Jill be able to find her mystery assailant? Will Vita's method bring him more trouble than he can handle? Will the underground villain be brought to justice? Find out in Freedom's Finest featuring Vita Nexus: Vital Signs!
Zeitgeist Blue Posted August 7, 2017 Posted August 7, 2017 (edited) A series of mysterious disappearances have been reported near and in Chinatown since the turn of the moon cycle, yet even as unease settles among the populace preparations begin for the Chinese Lunar New Year Festival. It goes off without a hitch; fortune cookies are served, the red lanterns go up, the streets flood with people, and dancing dragons take to the parade! Then a disturbance of some kind jerks several people awake, among them the heroes Reagent and Salvo in their civilian identities, Winifred Wei and Nicole Whitfield-Hall. And as soon as they get their bearings, flying creatures swoop down on the awakened group and snatch all their grasping claws could! The two heroes escape, only to find they are trapped inside a space-dilution bubble, the outside world unaware of the predicament happening just a few blocks away. Nicole's armor, Bellios, is not responding to her summons, and though Winifred still wields her trusted bandolier there are festival-goers everywhere, frozen in place as they once were; a blink of an eye stretched to eternity. The clock nears the midnight hour's zenith. Shadows lengthen as lights flicker and die, and whole city blocks are shrouded in darkness and glowing red eyes. Purple lightning flash across the sky, and the creations of a mad man stalk the streets, hunting those unfortunates who awaken. Forced to rely on their wits and the fast dwindling concoctions of Reagent, could the two young heroes figure out just what is happening and put a stop to this madness before it's too late? Or shall they too become fodder for the creatures that lurk in the night? Edited August 7, 2017 by Zeitgeist Blue
Zatvair Posted October 13, 2017 Posted October 13, 2017 I'd like to do one if your still doing it. As The Commander And Ox are still pretty new to the Hero Scene it'd be nice to have a mentor
Cubismo Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 Neato! Superhero team-ups between newbies and the old guard are almost always engaging. Anyways... Replica was only vaguely aware of the superhero Midnight and that fact was only one reason why she believed his guidance was vital when she briefly came across him while on patrol. Learning from a hero from such an established legacy and similar talents would be incredibly beneficial in expanding her knowledge and perhaps even help her investigation of her creator's death. There would be no way to know unless she made the first move.
Drakka Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Ooh, is this still possible? Here, I'll post something. Jack of All Blades had seen much in his forays as a hero, a pack of monsters stealing away the citizens of Freedom City for heaven knows what reason shouldn't be a surprise, or even difficult. But what's this? A bigger monster than the rest...following them? Could it be the ringleader? Or perhaps something else? Either way, the heroes better put their heads together, before the real monsters make everyone disappear, for good! See what happens in "Where? Where-Wolf!"
NotAHoneyBadger Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Wanting to become a hero, but unsure of how to start, Micah enrolls in Erik's self-defense school to toughen up. Jack of all Blades realizes almost immediately that there is more to the new student, and takes it upon himself to test her, to see what she is really worth.
blackstarraven Posted June 12, 2019 Posted June 12, 2019 Would totally be up for this. Though not sure how to get started. I mean apart from my character being a vigilante by night. Rossignol being a PL:8 bow/arrow character in general.
