Thevshi Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Once back in the cockpit, Ruby smoothly began the pre-flight procedures, starting up the ship's reactor and engines once again. Immediately warning alarms began to sound, as the temperatures quickly shot to dangerous levels. A few subsystems quickly overheated and shut down, causing Ruby to divert extra power to running what cooling exhausts were at least partially functioning. That managed to put temperatures back at least into the yellow, barely, but meant there was no power for weapons or other systems, and any stress could easily put the core and engine temperatures back into the red and cause further shutdowns. And of course, there was at least one enemy fighter that was still out there somewhere....
Darksider42 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 "Frak, You must be joking!" Ruby said as she quickly hit switches across the pilots console to power down the ships engines. She took a deep breath and switched on the intercom. "OK, change of plans. Looks like the ship will likely overheat and melt down if try anything. Don't want to be stuck in here doing nothing so I'll go with you Bliss and do this the hard way." She announced. Exiting the cockpit, it did not take Ruby long to suit up in her black and gold Combat Armor. If Roulette did somehow screw up and let the prisoner escape, the ships lack of functions would likely doom him and wading though the jungle unarmed would produce similar results.
TheAbsurdist Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) "Fine." Her tone was flat, as per usual, "Let's not play with the engine's anymore, the sparking kind of stings." Her tone was annoyed at what had happened, all of it, really. She felt like punching the prisoner, ass he felt he would have a big smirk right about now. Shaking her head she finished putting on the suit, not admitting it was mostly a comfort thing that she didn't really need, the modifications helped with that but... well she still preferred certain environments. And she definitely clung to some things in the face of everything that had changed so much. "If he gets lippy punch him." It was directed to Roulette. Though she was more than happy to punch the survivors of those who tried to kill her. She might even feel bad about it. She was working on the whole 'temper issue' problem. GooseInduced Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 Seika nodded. "Seika can do." She stuck around the cockpit ling enough to see the trouble Ruby was having with the ship. It really didn't look good. Though she had to admit she liked the idea of three of them being out there instead of two. Not that she was afraid, but extra eyes never hurt. Besides, she was useless with tech. The archer made her way through the wounded vessel to grab her gear. The bow was a bit big to be used on ship but once outside it shouldn't prove a a hindrance. Her arrows and equipment were grabbed as well and the small pouch carrying the rock dubbed 'the baby' was on her hip as usual as she waited by the hatch for the others.
Brown Dynamite Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Roulette took Seika's place near the containment cells. Giving their prisoner a wary look he silently sighed to himself. We'll be lucky if we even break even on this job at this rate. And now we're in a karking jungle. Not worth it. Roulette wasn't much for solving problems with violence. They were bounty hunters, so that came with the job of course. But, he much preferred trickery to capture a bounty. With that in mind. His own urges to punch the prisoner were not dissimilar to Bliss'. "Hey, sleeping plagworm. Now would be a good time to fess up and tell me if we should be expecting more of your friends."
Thevshi Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 After they had gathered their weapons and other gear, the three Voidrunners gathered at the hatch to the main ramp of the vessel. Exiting the spacecraft, the found the dim cave that Ruby had landed in to be cool and damp. The sound of dripping water could be heard faintly somewhere deeper into the cave, but otherwise it was rather quiet. Moving toward the mouth of the cave, Seika took the lead, as tracking and survival in the wilderness was much more her area of expertise. The Kah'iru peered out into the bright light of the canyon floor beyond, scanning over the rocky shoreline of a thin river. So far there was no sign of any of their pursuers, but they had some ground to cover before they could reach the fighter that had been downed in the canyon.
Thevshi Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 Aboard the Voidrunner The mark set back up from the cot as Roulette made his way back into the cell area. "Giving you something of a problem are they?" He stated, a wide smile coming to his face. "Believe me, they are just getting started trying to free me. If you want to get out of this alive, I suggest you just let me go." He then added, his smile fading from his face. But despite his attempts at bravado, Roulette had a distinct feeling that the mark had no idea who it was attacking them.
Darksider42 Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Ruby stepped out of the Voidrunner, now properly suited up in her scratched up gold armor. "I'll keep an eye on the back." She said as she pulled out her pistol and armed it. The bounty hunter could not recall if the planet had any particularly dangerous wildlife, but it was best to assume that everything dirtside had a plan to rend the flesh from your bones in some suitably gruesome manner. She waited for Selka and Bliss to take point. There as enough time for her to double check the cover for their ship. Hopefully the fighters scanners were not capable of sweeping rock formations with accuracy. Last thing she needed was to come back to a burning pile of scrap.
Brown Dynamite Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 "Right. Okay, if they show up again I'll throw you right to them then. Who knows, maybe you're worth enough for them to agree to fix the ship then." Roulette calmly lied. Entertaining, their prisoner's request as a tease. And a distraction from a daunting reality. The guy wasn't exactly a fountain of knowledge it seemed. Which was dangerous. It meant it was possible they weren't actually here for him. We might be the target. The Zultasian wanted to curse under his breath in frustration. If that were the case, then the others hadn't even given him the luxury of leaving him with a possible bargaining chip.
TheAbsurdist Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 (edited) There was grumbling, oh so much grumbling, as she grabbed some tools to help, as she was likely going to have to scavenge off of the fighter ships, as needed. She emerged after Ruby, but quickly shifted to take point, as she had the ability to shift her mobility a bit more than Ruby. She kept the helmet disabled as she moved forward, given they were backed into a corner, and by that a cave, she would need all of her senses, and the filter on the habsuit always made her feel like her sense of smell was off. Plus it's safety filter meant that her vision was a little off as it shielded IR. The tools were secured as a satchel, and she glanced at her team, "If I encounter any enemy, I'll be sure to yell." And then she turned from them, towards the mouth, and her tendrils shot out, snapping into the ground, and then slinging her forward in a leap, before landing into a quick jog. Thevshi Posted February 13, 2016 Author Posted February 13, 2016 With Bliss in the lead, followed closely by Sieka, the three Voidrunners started along the rocky banks of the thin river that wound through the canyon. The midday sun hung high overhead, further heating the already warm air. The barren terrain provided little concealment for the group, leaving staying close to the canyon walls as their best option. After travelling a few miles up the canyon, the three arrived at the crash site of one of the fighters. Shards of composite metal were scattered about the area, the fighter having broken apart when it slammed into the canyon wall. Along one side of the canyon were several large pieces of the spacecraft that had more or less remained intact, although they were very battered.
Thevshi Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 As the three Voidrunners move toward the wreckage of the fighter, they notice a shadowy shape behind several large boulders along the canyon wall. The figure is clearly trying to remain out of sight, but doing a rather poor job of it. It appears to be holding something in one hand, possibly a sidearm of some sort. Seika tightens the grip on her bow, but does not draw back the arrow she already has on the string. Moving close to the other two, she quietly states, "something is watching."
GooseInduced Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Seika's eyes narrowed, carefully surveying the scene in from of her. Her pupils dilated and contracted, a second inner eyelid slid over her eyes to help filter light and enhance the infrared spectrum. She didn't see any signs of this creature being wounded or hurt, but she could clearly discern its shape. It's hind quarriers were quadrupedal and scaled and attached to it was a furred humanoid torso with the head of a wolf. It appeared to be wearing some sort of flight suit and- "And it is armed." She makes sure to point out the location of the creature by raising her bow and only partially drawing it back. Just enough to put tension on the frame and declare a warning to the creature that she is prepared to fire. "Weapon on ground." She commands. "Weapon on ground or this one will shoot."
Thevshi Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Seika and Ruby could see the alien hesitate a moment when the Kahi'iru archer made her demand. However, it did not raise its sidearm and the hand holding it began to tremble slightly. Then, the creature held up its free hand toward the group, as the hand holding the blaster pistol partially release the grip, preventing it from effectively firing the weapon as it slowly crouched down and set the weapon on the ground. Once it had done so, it stood back up, both hands raised, as its legs took a few side steps away from the discarded sidearm. Now that it had moved out from the rocks it had been trying to hide behind, Bliss could more clearly make it out as well.
TheAbsurdist Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Inside her suit she made a face, which was dimly visible under the visor of the helmet. She made her way down towards him and the ship, and as she didn't need to be that close, she extended an arm and one of her tendrils lashed out, coiling around the pistol and jerked it back to her with enough speed for there to be a small, but resonant *whump*. "Pity. I was hoping you'd struggle. There is still time, if you are feeling a surge of bravery." Her droll tone dripping with menace. "Why were you attacking us?"
Darksider42 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Ruby raised her rifle at the alien and started to slowly make her approach. Even unarmed some across the galaxy had unexpected abilities or just hidden allies and weapons. She did admit, she was surprised Bliss had something of a dramatic flair for intimidation. You learn something new everyday I suppose... She kept her rifle level with the aliens head as she started to get a clearer shot. "I'd do what she says, She can get rather...Creative if you piss her off enough."
Thevshi Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 The alien flinched slightly as Bliss yanked its discarded weapon away, but otherwise remained still with its arms raised up. There were a few moments hesitation when Bliss asked her question, but whatever thoughts it had of refusing to answer appeared settled by Ruby's comment. "Standard procedure during an invasion, all inbound or outbound space traffic is to be contained." The creature stated in accented GalStandard. "You may have dealt with or otherwise eluded our flight, but there will be others coming to investigate, including ground troops to look for survivors."
TheAbsurdist Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 Biss cast the weapon back towards Ruby and she made a face as she glanced back to her associate. She looked back to the other alien, and she made a cooing, chirruping noise in her throat as she closed the distance between her and it? Him? She wasn't concerned on that fact, it was a threat and representative of a larger threat. Deal with that first. "Not enough, more. Please. Invasion of what?" She was being coy and a little stupid, but frankly if they were fleeing, then they needed to know what they were fleeing, what was coming as they were effectively hamstrung. As she spoke her tendrils slide free, rising up as they did so and aimed themselves at the other alien's eyes with more than a little intent showing. She didn't care about who, she wanted scope and numbers. "How many? Carriers, battlecruisers? This system? This sector? Answer." Those tendrils moved closer and closer, the tips trembling before the alien's face.
Thevshi Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 For a moment the alien showed a slight hesitation at the threat of Bliss' tendrils, but then snarled at her as it replied. "I would believe that would be obvious, even for one as simple as you." It replied in its accented GalStandard. "This planet and system are our targets.""As for any other details, I refuse to reveal any such sensitive data." It then added, taking a slightly defiant stance. "Any harm you inflict on me will be repaid in kind. And the longer you stay here, the greater a chance that a recovery team will arrive looking for me."
Darksider42 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 "Well, you're useless to us then.." Ruby said before bringing the butt of her rifle down on the back of the Alien's head and knocking him out cold. "Sleep tight." The bounty hunter took a deep breath as she tried to keep calm. She was starting to wonder just how the Voidrunners keep getting caught in these sorts of events. Shaking her head, she looked over to Bliss and jerked her head to the wreckage. "Bliss, sort through that wreckage. We don't have much time. Seika, you and me are shooting anything that moves just like before." Before giving their captive a small kick with her boot just to make sure it was not getting up.
Thevshi Posted March 15, 2016 Author Posted March 15, 2016 The alien went down easily from the blindsided attack, as Ruby and Seika both moved to cover one end of the canyon. Bliss moved over toward the wreckage of the alien fighter, and quickly realized it was pointless to spend any time sifting through it. The collision with the canyon's rocky walls had broken the fighter apart, those pieces crashing down onto the rocky ground around the thin river at the base of the canyon and breaking apart further. While there might be some parts that were still salvageable, none of them would help make the repairs the Voidrunner needed to get out of the planet's atmosphere. If they were going to find parts that could help them, they were likely going to have to look for one of the fighters shot down over the woods located up at the top of the canyon.
GooseInduced Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Seika kept her bow at the ready, eyes narrowing to watch for any sign of attack from the strain alien. Its mention of an invasion made her shoulders rise as if to make herself already sizeable self look bigger, an instinctive reaction to the idea of an attack. She didn't allow herself even a deep breath until that rifle came down and put the alien to sleep. Even then it wasn't much of a comfort. "Great. There will Mr more then yes? This one thinks these ones should leave planet quickly." She turned her back on bliss, eyes scanning and keeping a lookout for any danger with her bow still at the ready but not drawn. She could see quiet a distance and should be able to see most threats long before they are spotted. "Bliss, is there anything these ones can use to fix Voidrunner?"
TheAbsurdist Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 "On it." There was a nod, mostly at the clubbering of the invader, as she moved to start going through the wreckage moving to the otherside, looking for the pieces they needed. Eventually came the harsh screech of rage, "Burning waters!" Which meant she wasn't finding anything they needed, either through incompatibility or disrepair. Not that she was a really a highly skill engineer, but... Still. So wreckage was being thrown in a fit of anger, a piece of the inertial control system was lifted by the tendrils and then spiked down hard. By the unconscious invader, but not on him. It made her feel better. She vaulted over the wreckage to land near Ruby and Seika. "Nothing." Was her taciturn response.
Darksider42 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 That was not something Ruby wanted to hear. "We'll have to try the other crash sites." She said with a sign. Pressing a few buttons on her wrist comp, she opened a communication channel to The Voidrunner. "We have a problem, This planet is going to get invaded soon. Keep the ships turrets primed if you see any trouble." Probably been a better idea to alert him sooner, but the last thing she wanted was to get jumped while keeping watch. Her thoughts turned to the other crash sites. Ruby wonder how difficult traversing the cliffside was going to be. There could be other scout ships incoming and ground forces to factor in. At least things were not going to be dull.
Thevshi Posted April 7, 2016 Author Posted April 7, 2016 After Ruby called back to update Roulette, the three Voidrunners made their way further down the canyon, looking for the easiest possible way of getting back up to higher ground where the other crash sites would be. They went almost a mile further down the canyon, before they found a slightly easier section of cliff wall that would get them up to higher ground. As an expert climber, Seika immediately began to climb, the Kahi'iru steadily ascending the cliff face. Ruby knew there was no way she would be able to climb the cliffs, luckily Bliss was able to eliminate that problem. The Xuli'pa used her cybernetic tendrils to climb up to small ledges, then pulling Ruby up and leaving her clinging to one before moving up to another. Soon, all three were up at the top of the cliff, finding themselves in a temperate forest with tall trees that towered close to a hundred feet in the air. The undergrowth was somewhat sparse, scattered about among the towering trees, thickest around areas where light was able to get through the high canopy.
