Well. Lion 3 misses Casey, but Lion 1 crits. So that's a DC25 Toughness check. Lion 6 bounds into the alley as if summoned, and she and 5 pull the same maneuver. 5 is the one attacking. They've got a combined 36 feet of vertical leaping, for the record. Which is why I asked how high you were in the air.

Oh man, that's a 21; even though that's missing by less than five, I'm guessing that will mess me up with a crit? If need be, I will blow my last HP on a reroll.

No, I added the crit to the DC. Another bruise for you. Crits either add damage or (with the Mastermind's Manual) add another effect of the attacker's choice. Me, I'd rather have the extra damage every time.

Okay, she can live with a third bruise. Oh wait, I forgot to add (or rather subtract) the effect of the earlier Bruised levels! So that's actually a 19

Well, you can be Dazed on top of that third Bruise. So no actions for your next turn, but you keep your Dodge bonus. So there's that, at least. Unless you're going to use that HP?

Why don't we use the Quick Study feat (from Iron Age) as a model? How much Quickness does she have again? Because according to that feat, one hour of study gives the PC one temporary skill rank.

Sounds like a feat I might want to look into! Casey has Quickness 12

Oh, it gets better. Once you've used said feat on a skill,  you are no longer considered untrained. And that is NOT temporary. You'll just have your ability bonus in the future, though.

 

Well. The limit to the temporary skill ranks in the number of ranks in the feat. So you can't cram 5000 hours' worth of study into one and get 5000 ranks. So...basically what I'll do is say for the duration of this thread, you are now trained in Knowledge (arcane lore) and have a +1 bonus to your ability score when rolling for it. Taking 20 only works if you're actually researching a particular thing. You do have time to do that, though.

Cool! I figure she's keeping it fairly broad for now, as she has no idea what she's looking for; I will definitely add a rank or two of Arcane Lore in her next edit!
